Are breast enlargements imitation or mutilation?
Independent - Big, bouncy and completely fake, larger-than-life bosoms are everywhere we look. Is it any wonder that last year, 26,000 British women went under the knife? More’s the pity, argues Bethan Cole – you can’t improve on nature.

America’s economy - Still on the right road
Economist - THE American economy has often defied predictions of its demise. It has done so again. Official figures published on Thursday July 31st show that America’s GDP rose at an annualised rate of 1.9% in the second quarter. This would a respectable enough growth rate at the best of times. That this was achieved despite the considerable handicaps of a badly damaged banking system, a big jump in oil prices and the ongoing housing bust, makes it remarkable.

Why India and China Said No to US
Spiegel - Trade talks broke down July 29 as India and China refused to bow to US demands on agricultural subsidies. It’s not often that China and India find themselves on the same side. They’re the world’s most populous countries and have two of the fastest-growing economies, but one is ruled by a communist regime, the other by an unruly coalition government. They don’t see eye to eye about relations with the US.

Why are Italian tourists so pushy and rude?
Times - Are Italians the rudest people on the planet? Three times this year, trying to alight from a Tube train, I’ve been shoved back by stylishly dressed people pushing in to board before the alighting passengers are off: and every time they’ve been yabbering in Italian. How do we reconcile modern Italy - consumerism, junk television, brand addiction and mindless celebrity worship - with the Italy of Venice, da Vinci, Verdi and the Medicis? Matu Parlovu
