Is Linking to Yourself the Future of the Web?

O’Reilly Radar - Last year, Bill Janeway really got my attention (pdf) when he noted that “over time, Wall Street ‘firms began to trade against their clients for their own account, such that now, the direct investment activities of a firm like Goldman Sachs dwarf their activities on behalf of outside customers.’” [...]

The internet shrinks your brain? What rubbish

Times - Of course, what all three of my Jeremiahs entirely miss about the internet is its quality of engagement. That’s what makes the new era so much better than the television age.

The Columbia Journalism Review’s Division Over Dissent

Slate - When does dissent become Untruth and lose the rights and respect due to “legitimate dissent”? Who decides—and how—what dissent deserves to be heard and what doesn’t? When do journalists have to “protect” readers from Untruth masking itself as dissent or skepticism?

On the Public Sphere, Deliberation, Journalism and Dignity

ResetDOC - We are facing a generation who is getting all its information online. The consequence is that one’s points of reference are so multiple that they may not intersect and a common world may not emerge. But fragmentation can also bring effervescence - says Seyla Benhabib, philosopher and Professor of political science [...]
