Stifled speech

Prague Post, by Blaž Zgaga - In Slovenia, a sister country to the Czech Republic, many articles are censored that express any critical statements toward our prime minister, Janez Janša, our government or any of its policies. For example, my newspaper, Večer, scrapped an opinion piece I wrote about how the new chief of the Slovenian Army was selected. Editors had previously planned for my column to run at the top of the editorial page.

Economist - What is much more disturbing is the way in which skilled young surfers—the very people whom the internet might have liberated from the shackles of state-sponsored ideologies—are using the wonders of electronics to stoke hatred between countries, races or religions. Sometimes these cyber-zealots seem to be acting at their governments’ behest—but [...]

Do electronic books threaten the future of traditional publishing?

Independent - After years of anticipation, the e-book has arrived and it looks set to stay. The long-term danger for publishers is if they don’t invest in digital technology for their content. They could also lose out if they just make classics available for e-book readers and not the most recent popular titles.
