Victoria Wood once performed an inspired sketch in which she just listed boy words and girl words. The comic potential doesn’t sound strong on paper, but it was hysterical. The climax was: “Male, carburettor. Female, flip-flop.” Engines versus shoes. Boys versus girls. We laughed because it was the late 1980s and it was so true. And today? Nothing has changed except that “fuel injection” has supplanted “carburettor”. Women’s triceps might bulge from pushing against the glass ceiling in the workplace, but when it comes to cars we are generally happy to leave the big bangers to the blokes.

I dok u Beču traje finalna runda pregovora Beograda i Prištine o statusu Kosova, postavlja se pitanje da li će specijalni izaslanik UN Marti Ahtisari uvažiti ijednu od brojnih primedbi koje dve strane imaju na njegov predlog rešenja za Kosovo, o kojem se u Beču razgovara. Procena je i srpskih i albanskih političara da neće biti mnogo razumevanja za podnesene primedbe, te da konačan predlog koji Ahtisari bude podneo Savetu bezbednost neće biti drugačiji u odnosu na sadašnji.

An Egyptian blogger was today sentenced to four years in prison for insulting Islam and the country’s president, Hosni Mubarak, in the country’s first prosecution of a blogger. Abdel Kareem Nabil, a 22-year-old former student at Egypt’s al-Azhar university, an Islamic institution, had pleaded innocent to all charges, and human rights groups had called for his release.

A more rapid pace of /economic / growth adds to the pressure on the environment. Almost without exception, the recent scientific evidence has indicated that man-made factors are leading to global warming. As economies expand, they need more power, more steel, more concrete. As consumers get richer, they demand cars, holidays, flat-screen TVs. Feedback mechanisms come into play as well. Wealthier consumers can afford to put in air-conditioning to cope with the heat but cooling systems require even more power, which adds to carbon emissions and ultimately - assuming the science is right - to global temperatures.

Ustvarjalne ljudi je potrebno vzgojiti, jih spodbujati in jim omogočiti, da soočijo svoje poglede in ideje. Kaj ima v mislih, je odboru ponazoril z dvema krtačkama za WC. Prva je stala 1,33 evra, druga, pestrih barv in na videz veliko bolj privlačna, pa 30 evrov. Po Turkovem mnenju mora ljudem priti v zavest ideja, kako delati napredne izdelke z veliko dodane vrednosti in kako jih tudi prodajati.
