Prvosrpanjsko dezerterstvo
I zašto me, uostalom, tako gledate?

Above and Beyond: The Apollo Space Race to the Moon
History Today - It is 40 years since Neil Armstrong took his ‘giant leap for mankind’ on the early summer morning of July 20th, 1969. It was the high point of a vast and expensive space programme initiated by President John F. Kennedy in the early 1960s which ended when Apollo 17’s lunar module lifted off from the Moon on December 14th, 1972. In just under three and a half years, 12 US astronauts walked on the Moon, drove around in their Moon buggy and thrilled television viewers around the world with their barely believable pantomime on a celestial body 236,000 miles from Earth.

Communism - Dead end
Economist - WHY did communism take root? Given its sorrowful harvest, why did it keep spreading? And what ever enabled it to last so long? Archie Brown’s new history of communism identifies three big questions, perhaps even the biggest, of the past century.

Saying Auf Wiedersehen to a Strong Europe
Spiegel - Euro-skeptics have plenty of reasons to celebrate. By strengthening national parliaments vis-a-vis the EU, Germany’s highest court has ended the dream of a ‘United States of Europe.’ And that’s good news for Eastern European countries, who often feel bullied by Germany, the alliance’s heavyweight.

Freedom, not money, is the capitalist dream
Telegraph - Those who do not wish to see capitalism consigned to what Trotsky called “the rubbish heap of history” will need to recall a lost truth – the end is not money. Or at least it shouldn’t be. Money is only the means to an end. The end is freedom. This is what Professor J K Galbraith meant when he said that the greatest restriction on the liberty of the citizen was a complete absence of money. It is why Margaret Thatcher told the story of the Good Samaritan, to show that you need to have the money first in order to use it to do the good works.

Iranians can make the next one better
Guardian, by Timothy G. Ash - There is no smoking gun, in the sense of proof positive of major electoral fraud. But, as two experienced election analysts write, “the smoking gun is in fact the process” – one that makes fraud so easy and uncovering it so hard. In any case, to ask the people to prove that the government has rigged the election is back to front. The onus is on a government to demonstrate to its people that an election has been free and fair. Which, in this case, it has obviously failed to do.

The Root of Madoff’s Evil
Nation - How convenient for the judge and the media to paint Bernard Madoff as Mr. Evil, a uniquely venal blight on an otherwise responsible financial industry in which money is handled honestly and with transparency. Do not be fooled by the argument of Wall Street lobbyists that Madoff was a lone rotten apple now safely discarded.
