Ko je Rupert Murdoch pred mesecem dni ponudil 5 milijard dolarjev za založniški hišo Dow Jones, je to pomenilo 67-odstotno ‘premijo’ na takratno ceno delnice. Včeraj je delnica podjetja, po kateri je dobil ime vodilni ameriški borzni indeks, poskočila na 60,56 dolarja in s tem presegla Murdochovo ponudbo.

Najbolj so delnice založnika zglednega dnevnika Wall Street Journal poskočile včeraj, ko je družina Bancroft, ki ima v rokah 52 odstotkov glasovalnih pravic Dow Jonesa, sporočila, da sprejema povabilo na pogovore o morebitni prodaji. A tudi, da kani proučiti še drugačne možnosti.

“The family has reached consensus that the mission of Dow Jones may be better accomplished in combination or collaboration with another organisation, which may include News Corporation,” the Bancrofts said in a statement. With the family said to have been originally concerned about the ongoing reputation of the Wall Street Journal, they added that they would meet Mr Murdoch to see if they could find a way to protect its editorial independence after any sale.

Sporočilo je tako podžgalo ugibanja in upanje, da se bo za Dow Jones morda pojavila konkurenčna ponudba. Večina borznih analitikov pa je navzlic temu prepričanih, da tako visoko, kakor je ceno postavil Rupert Murdoch, ne bo šel nihče drug, tudi zato, ker trenutno ni videti založnika, ki bi s prevzemom Dow Jonesa lahko ustvaril toliko sinergij kot News Corporation.

It’s critical to remember, analysts say, that Dow Jones is probably a better fit for News Corp. because of News Corp.’s planned Fox Business Channel. The new channel could draw upon the Journal and other Dow Jones properties for content. Dow Jones also owns MarketWatch, publisher of this report. “Murdoch wants to use this as the core to do something else, and there really isn’t anybody else around that fits that position,” said Ed Atorino, analyst with Benchmark & Co. “There are no obvious synergies for another buyer, but it is a trophy and it is always possible.”
