Italy’s business clusters – Sinking together

Economist - LORRIES no longer come and go along the rough road beside the olive trees at La Martella, in the rolling countryside a few miles from Matera, in southern Italy. The blue gates of the Nicoletti factory, where sofas and easy chairs were made, are locked. Once one of the most prominent firms in a big manufacturing cluster, it ran into difficulties last year and was put into liquidation in July.
